Drugs And Weapons Seized, Broadbeach

Detectives from the Gold Coast Major and Organised Crime Squad and Taskforce Maxima have seized a large quantity of drugs and five handguns from a Broadbeach address yesterday.

Police executed a search warrant at a unit on Surf Parade and located a large amount of methylamphetamine, five handguns, ammunition, taser baton, a quantity of illegal and prescription drugs, including MDMA tablets, four mobile phones and $5750 cash.

Officers also located and seized a 2016 Mercedes GLC43, which they will allege was stolen and bearing false plates.

A 43-year-old Broadbeach man was charged with two counts each of unlawful possession of weapons category D/H/R weapon and possessing dangerous drugs (MDMA) (Alprazolam) and one count each of possessing dangerous drugs exceed schedule 4, possessing relevant substances or things, possessing anything for use in the commission of crime defined in Part 2, possession proceeds of an offence under Drugs Misuse Act and authority required to possess explosives.

He is expected to appear in the Southport Magistrates Court today.

A 20-year-old man, who was also present during the search warrant, was charged with one count of possess utensils used in smoking dangerous drugs.

Investigations are continuing.
