Drugs, guns found in paddock, man charged in Parkes

A man is due in Parkes Local Court tomorrow charged after guns and drugs were found allegedly hidden in a paddock, NSW Police say.

Police from Cowra Highway Patrol were patrolling the Newell Highway near Peak Hill about 9.30am (Monday 5 March 2018), when they saw a hire car being driven at high speed.

Officers began following the vehicle; however, did not initiate a pursuit due to the alleged dangerous manner of driving

A short time later, police found the vehicle stopped on Telescope Road at Parkes, with the driver allegedly hiding drugs and guns in the adjoining paddock.

The 42-year-old man was arrested while police searched the paddock and seized two firearms, ammunition and a variety of drugs.

The man, from Queensland, was taken to Parkes Police Station where he was charged with 14 offences

  • Exceed speed by more than 45km/h
  • Drive recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous
  • Drive while licence cancelled
  • Possess prohibited drug (four counts)
  • Supply prohibited drug indictable quantity (not cannabis) (three counts)
  • Possess ammunition w/o holding licence/permit/authority (two counts)
  • Possess shortened firearm (not pistol) without authority, and
  • Possess unauthorised firearm.

The man was refused bail and will appear in Parkes Local Court tomorrow (Tuesday 6 March 2018).
