Drunk driver arrested Alice Springs

A 35-year-old man has been arrested and charged by Police following a traffic pursuit in Alice Springs yesterday.

It is alleged the vehicle was travelling north on Gap Road when it failed to stop for Police conducting a random breath test just before 11pm, Northern Territory Police say.

Police activated their lights and sirens and followed the vehicle as it attempted to avoid Police by turning down several streets before turning onto Larapinta Drive and continuing west.

The vehicle appeared to slow down near Flynns Grave, which was a result of one of the passengers allegedly jamming the car into ‘Park’ in an attempt to stop the vehicle. Once the vehicle has stopped two of its passengers have jumped out and Police have attempted to open the drivers side door and remove the man from the vehicle when he has driven off at speed.

Police terminated the pursuit and the passengers were transported to the Alice Springs Police Station for statements.

Police located the vehicle, another passenger and the driver just before midnight. The man was arrested and charged.

He provided a positive Blood Alcohol Reading of 0.193 per cent and was transported to the Alice Springs Police Watch House.

He was later charged with:

Drive Vehicle in Dangerous Manner

Drive Vehicle When Not Under AIL Licence

Fail to Comply Police Officers Direction

Drive Unregistered Motor Vehicle

Drive Uninsured Motor Vehicle

Drive High Range Blood Alcohol Content

Drive Motor Vehicle Unsafe to Drive

He will be brought before a magistrate for a bail determination this afternoon.
