Drunk's elaborate heist nets one bottle of booze

A cut-off drunk punched his way through the wall of a bottle shop in order to steal one bottle of booze in Clayton last month, Victoria Police say.

Police are investigating the bizarre incident which occurred at a store on the Princes Highway on 29 October.

The unknown man was denied entry to a nearby pub for being too intoxicated shortly after 1am.

After arguing with the bar’s security staff, the man then walked to the back of a bottle shop.

He then removes an air vent from the generator room and wriggles through the hole into the store’s wall cavity.

Undeterred by the small confines, the man punches a hole through the plaster and removes bottles of alcohol from his path before crawling inside the shop.

While the man goes about filling a garbage bag full of booze, he leaves the bag behind and instead leaves the shop with just one bottle that he placed down his pants.

Police have released CCTV footage of a man who they believe may assist them with their enquiries.

The man is described as Caucasian, aged in his late 40’s to early 50’s with a medium build and black receding hair.

He was wearing grey button-up shirt, black jeans and black shoes.

Police are appealing for anyone with any information on the burglary to contact Crime Stoppers.
