Duo Nabbed After Flagging Police in Salisbury Downs

A stolen motorised scooter, knife and other items were seized when two men were arrested at Salisbury Downs early this morning.

Just after midnight Wednesday 26 November, Northern District officers were patrolling on Winzor Street when they were flagged down by two males who were with a Yamaha motorised scooter. Police will allege that when they stopped to speak with the duo, the rider tried to start the scooter without success, and the men subsequently abandoned their ride and fled on foot.

Patrols gave chase and the suspects were swiftly arrested nearby.

Checks on the scooter revealed that it was recorded as stolen from a car park in Modbury on Thursday 6 November.

A 38-year-old man from Whyalla was charged with breach of bail, illegal use of a motor vehicle, possessing a graffiti implement and carrying an offensive weapon after he was searched and found to have blade and marker in his possession. The man's arrest also cleared an outstanding warrant that was issued for his arrest. He was refused police bail and will appear in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court later today.

The alleged rider of the scooter, a 42-year-old Paralowie man, was charged with riding without a licence and illegal use of a motor vehicle. He was further charged with two counts of carrying an offensive weapon and possessing an article of disguise after police uncovered a knife, slingshot and balaclava in his possession. The man was granted police bail and will appear in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court on Wednesday 7 January.

The Paralowie man was also issued with a drug diversion for possessing an ice pipe.

Police towed the stolen scooter from the scene.
