E-Motorbike Rider Faces Traffic Charges in Newcastle

An e-motorbike rider will face court charged following a vehicle stop near Newcastle at the weekend.

About 3.30pm on Sunday 9 November 2025, Operation Shore Safe police were patrolling Wharf Road, Newcastle, when they stopped and spoke with a man riding an e-motorbike.

During an inspection of the e-motorbike, police took steps to educate the rider about the legalities of his bike and provided a warning not to ride the bike or legal action could be taken.

Later that afternoon, Operation Shore Safe police were patrolling Cowper Street, Carrington, when they stopped the same man after he was allegedly seen riding the same e-motorbike.

Following inquiries, the rider was subject to a preliminary roadside breath test which allegedly returned a positive result.

He was arrested and taken to Newcastle Police Station where he underwent a secondary breath analysis which returned a reading of 0.178.

Further inquiries revealed that the 35-year-old man did not hold a licence for the class of vehicle he was riding.

He was charged with five offences,

  • Drive with high range PCA
  • Never licensed person drive vehicle on road
  • Use unregistered registrable Class A motor vehicle on road
  • Use uninsured motor vehicle on road, and
  • Rider without helmet ride with 1 passenger without helmet.

He was issued a court attendance notice to appear before Newcastle Local Court on Thursday 11 December 2025.
