E-scooter donation drive for bushfire volunteers

Beam Mobility

It might still be spring but the recent spate of high temperatures and the weather conditions point to a long hot summer for the thousands of volunteers at the Country Fire Service.

In recognition of the contribution of the volunteers who risk a great deal to protect our community, Beam Mobility is donating 25 cents from every e-scooter ride in Adelaide for the next two weeks to the CFS Foundation (up to a maximum donation of $10,000).

The CFS Foundation was formed in 2001, and its purpose is to provide immediate financial support to CFS volunteer fire-fighters and their families in the event of death, injury or loss of property while engaging in their community service.

Beam's Head of Public Affairs Brad Kitschke said that the company wanted to acknowledge and support the work of the CFS Volunteers and give everyday South Australian's a way to say thank you every time they use an e-scooter.

"It is a really easy way for every-day South Australians to say thankyou to the CFS Volunteers. People don't automatically recognise that these brave people are volunteers who take time out of their busy schedules to give back to the community. They put themselves in harms way to protect our community, often in very dangerous situations.

"We have been welcomed by South Australia and we see ourselves as a local business that is part of the community. As we head into the holiday season it is important to remember when we are relaxing with family and friends these volunteers can be called on to deal with bushfires and other incidents. The volunteers sacrifice time with family or other commitments to help keep our community safe. By supporting the CFS Foundation we are helping to ensure that volunteers and their families are looked after when they need help and support. Said Mr Kitschke. "

CFS Foundation CEO Gloria Berni said that this was a great initiative and welcomed the support,

"Our CFS Volunteers give up personal time with their families and make other sacrifices in order to be available should an emergency arise. So far this year, over 100 volunteers have been dispatched to assist with fires interstate and over the last week they have been fighting fires and protecting property in Port Lincoln and Yorke Peninsula. We all need to do our best to ensure we are prepared to minimise the potential risk of bushfire.

Our CFS Volunteers risk their lives to protect the community and the CFS Foundation is here to support the volunteers and their families should the worst happen to them whilst in the line of duty." Ms Berni Said.

Beam will donate 25 cents from every trip taken on its e-scooters in Adelaide for the next two weeks. The donation drive kicks off on Saturday 23 November and Beam has committed to donating up to $10,000 to the Foundation. The more trips riders take the greater the donation to the Foundation.

The Company says that with the forthcoming summer, more businesses should find ways to recognise and help and support our volunteer emergency services by adopting policies to support their employees who volunteer with the Country Fire Service or State Emergency Service or by running donation drives like this one.

*Terms and conditions. Donation drive starts at 05:00am Saturday, 23 November 2019 and concludes at 04:59 Saturday 7th December. 25 cents will be donated to the CFS Foundation for every unique paid trip undertaken by riders in Adelaide, up to a maximum donation cap of AU$10,000.
