Australia Post today announced it plans to resume postal sending to the United States (US) and its Overseas Territories on Monday 22 September 2025 for business customers, three days earlier than previously advised.
This resumption follows changes the US Government made to customs and import tariff rules at the end of August 2025, which saw Australia Post, along with many other international postal operators, make the difficult decision to temporarily partially suspend postal services to the US, Puerto Rico, Guam, Northern Mariana Islands, US Virgin Islands and US Minor Outlying Islands.
Australia Post has worked with Zonos, one of a limited number of US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) authorised third-party providers, to offer Australia Post Business Contract and My Post Business customers a solution to meet the new rules and allow deliveries to the US to resume.
In addition, retail customers will be able to send all parcels to the US via the Post Office network on or before 7 October 2025. Currently, letters and documents of no commercial value, and gifts valued under USD$100, are exempt from any tariff impacts.
Australia Post Executive General Manager, Parcel, Post & eCommerce Services, Gary Starr said: "We're pleased postal sending to the US for business customers will resume three days ahead of schedule.
"We know our customers have felt the impact and disruption from changes the US Government made to customs and import tariff rules, and we have been working around the clock to re-start sending as soon as possible.
"We thank customers for their patience and understanding. Australia Post is focused on providing a reliable and competitive parcel experience and we know just how important it is for them to be able to send items to the US through our cost-efficient postal service as soon as possible," Mr Starr said.
To meet the new US requirements, Business Contract and MyPost Business customers need to register with Zonos and set up a Zonos Verified Account.
