Easter road safety in focus

As part of the Easter road safety campaign, 99 drink and drug drivers have been detected.

Drink driving traffic crashes

At 1.30am on Friday morning police were called to Felix Street in Brisbane City after a car smashed into the back of a parked van. A 22-year-old Arundel woman has been charged with driving under the influence of liquor (0.204) and driving an uninsured and unregistered vehicle. She will appear in the Brisbane Magistrates Court on May 25.

At 9pm on Friday a car left the road and hit a tree in Lucy Street at Bald Hills. A 52-year-old Bald Hills man was charged with driving under the influence of liquor, drive without due care and attention and disqualified driving. He will appear the in Sandgate Magistrates Court on April 10.

At 10.50pm on Friday a sedan hit a fence in Gibson Street at Ayr. A 40-year-old Ayr woman has been charged with drink driving (0.097) and driving without due care and attention. She will appear at the Ayr Magistrates Court on May 4.

At 11.45pm on Friday Ingham police located a man swimming away from a 4WD which had crashed into Palm Creek off Warrens Hill Road. A 25-year-old Ingham man has been charged with drink driving (0.098) and will appear in the Ingham Magistrates Court later this month.

High range drink driving offences

At 12.05am Friday morning police stopped a car on the Cunningham Highway near Marshall Street at Goondiwindi. A 50-year-old Goondiwindi woman has been charged with driving under the influence of liquor (0.206) and will appear in the Goondiwindi Magistrates Court on May 12.

At 1.30am Friday police were called to Redbank Plains Road at Bellbird Park in relation to an alleged drunk driver of a 4WD. A 38-year-old Durack man has been charged with driving under the influence of liquor (0.206) and will appear in the Ipswich Magistrates Court on April 23.

At 8pm on Friday police stopped a SUV on Garfield Terrace in Surfers Paradise. A 43-year-old Surfers Paradise woman has been charged with driving under the influence of liquor (0.243) and will appear in the Southport Magistrates Court.

At 1.25am on Saturday morning police stopped a SUV on Stanhill Drive at Surfers Paradise. A 26-year-old Molendinar man has been charged with driving under the influence of liquor (0.213) and will appear at the Southport Magistrates Court on April 7.

Chief Superintendent, Road Policing Command, Ray Rohweder said police will be out on the road performing random breath tests throughout Easter.

"Drink driving is a contributing factor in over 18 per cent of fatalities on Queensland roads.

"Road safety is your responsibly, if you chose to drink, don't drive," he said.
