Eastern Freeway Closure And Bulleen Road Bridge Works

Manningham Council

As part of North East Link Project's Eastern Freeway upgrade works, a full closure of the Eastern Freeway will occur between Bulleen Road and Tram Road from 10:00pm Friday 15 May until 5:00am Monday 18 May 2026.

This closure will enable the project to asphalt new freeway lanes, install underground services, such as drainage, and build new noise walls between Bulleen and Elgar Road.

What to expect:

Delays of up to 90 minutes are expected during peak travel times. Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead, allow extra travel time and avoid the area where possible.

The closure will also impact the broader road network, with increased traffic expected on surrounding major arterials. Electronic signs and detours will be in place to guide road users throughout the weekend. NELP will directly notify adjacent property owners.

During this closure, the following ramps will also be closed to help ease traffic congestion:

• Chandler HighwayRingwood-bound entry ramp

• Middleborough Road citybound entry ramp

• Blackburn Road citybound entry ramp

• Springvale Road citybound entry ramp.

In addition to this weekend closure, nightly closures of the Bulleen Road Bridge to all vehicle and pedestrian traffic will occur from 12 to 14 May, and again on 18 May.

These closures are required to undertake critical works, including the replacement of bridge bearing pads and the installation of Intelligent Transport System (ITS) conduits. To complete these works safely, the bridge will be slightly lifted to allow removal of the existing bearing pads and installation of new pads before being lowered back to its original position.

NELP is undertaking an extensive communications campaign to ensure motorists are aware and allow extra travel time, with delays of up to 20 minutes expected during peak periods.

If you have any further queries regarding these disruptions and closures or other NELP associated works, call 1800 105 105 or visit bigbuild.vic.gov.au/projects/north-east-link-program.
