Registrations for the Eat Local Stay Local voucher scheme are now open, as the Tasmanian Government invests in the visitor economy, attracting more people to experience Tasmania.
Tasmanians have two weeks to register for one of 100,000 vouchers, valued at $100 each.
Premier and Minister for Tourism, Jeremy Rockliff, said the Government is building a better Tasmania: now, and for the future, by investing in the tourism and hospitality industry.
"The Eat Local, Stay Local initiative will help stimulate our economy and back in business during the quieter months, with Tasmanians able to stay, eat and explore, and we'll split the cost with them," Premier Rockliff said.
"These vouchers are a key part of this year's Budget which includes more than $57 million of investment into the tourism industry, helping drive visitation across the state.
"We cannot underestimate the importance of our tourism industry for our economy. For every dollar visitors spend, another 83 cents is generated in our economy – this means we can invest more into our schools, our hospitals and roads.
"This initiative will give local businesses a confidence boost over the coming months so we want to see people out and about, enjoying a meal at their local pub or restaurant."
Online registrations are open until 5pm on June 16, providing plenty of time for Tasmanians to register.
Tasmanians can also visit a Service Tasmania service centre to register.
Recipients will be randomly allocated through a ballot process, so everyone who registers will have equal chance of getting a voucher. Successful recipients will be notified at the end of June.
Premier Rockliff said previous voucher schemes were effective in injecting money into our economy, small businesses and regional communities.
"Successful recipients have between 1 July and 31 October to use their voucher, and submit their receipt to claim the $100," Premier Rockliff said.
The Eat Local, Stay Local initiative is part of the Government's $27.8 million Tourism and Hospitality Support package to boost visitation around the state, supporting industry.
