Elderly man victim of theft in Chapel Street

Police are investigating following a theft in Prahran last month, Victoria Police say.

Investigators have been told an elderly man withdrew $700 from a bank on Chapel Street about 3.45pm on Thursday 9 March.

The 89-year-old counted the cash in the foyer and placed it in his shirt pocket, before leaving the bank.

While at a nearby café, an unknown man approached the elderly man and spoke to him briefly before grabbing the cash from his shirt pocket and running away.

The man was last seen heading south along Chapel Street.

It is believed the man had observed the victim handling the cash inside the bank.

Investigators have released CCTV images of a man they believe could assist with their enquiries.

The man is described as tall with a slim build, short dark hair and tattoos up his arms.

At the time of the incident he was wearing a black singlet, jeans and runners.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
