Elderly woman struck, killed by vehicle in Nowra

An elderly pedestrian has died in hospital this morning following a collision with a car on the south coast yesterday, NSW police said.

About 10.20am Friday, emergency services were called to the Princes Highway; about 30 metres north of Junction Street, after reports a woman had been struck by a Mazda SUV.

The 94-year-old woman from Berry was struck by the Mazda after she attempted to cross the third northbound lane.

The location is not a designated pedestrian crossing.

The woman was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance Paramedics for a severe laceration to the back of her head. She was airlifted to St George Hospital but died early this morning.

Officers from Shoalhaven Local Area Command attended and established a crime scene.

The 34-year-old male driver of the Mazda was not injured but was taken to Shoalhaven Hospital for mandatory blood and urine testing.

Investigators are seeking any witnesses to the collision to contact Nowra detectives  or Crime Stoppers.

A report is being prepared for the information of the Coroner.
