Elves lead way to great local gift ideas

Christmas Gift Guide Photo Submission Tips

If you spy a little elf on your morning coffee run or out shopping locally, your eyes are not deceiving you! Hobsons Bay City Council is posting little 'Elves on Shelves' across the municipality to tell you about its new online Christmas Gift and Event Guide.

Keep an eye out for the little elves in random places, scan the QR code attached to the elf and enter to be in the running to win one of five $100 gift cards to spend at a local business from the gift and event guide.

Mayor of Hobsons Bay Cr Peter Hemphill said the guide highlighted and promoted Hobsons Bay businesses, encouraged residents to shop and dine locally during the festive season and aimed to attract visitors to local precincts.

"There are gift suggestions for the home, garden, children, even our furry friends, as well as some great options for gift vouchers to local services and activities," said Cr Hemphill.

"Council has been a big supporter of 'shopping local, supporting local' and there's never been a more important time to get behind our local traders than now. After a tough two years of trade, our local businesses can't wait to serve you!"

The gift guide also provides a great snapshot of events and 'things to do' in Hobsons Bay in the lead up to Christmas, including music in the streets, art to see and heritage sites to engage with. There'll be opportunities to get in the festive spirit at Christmas in Williamstown with face painters, balloon artists, a magician and Santa himself driving through the streets to spread some holiday cheer.

"Hobsons Bay is a great place to shop and dine, with so much variety on offer. As restrictions ease and the weather warms up, our city is the perfect place to start to rebuild and reconnect," said Cr Hemphill.
