Elwick Thoroughbred Track Redevelopment officially underway

Elise Archer,Minister for Racing

Work has officially commenced on the $12.5 million redevelopment of the Elwick Thoroughbred Race Track that will ensure the long-term future of racing in Southern Tasmania.

The new single 28-metre wide track will deliver first class facilities and a superior track that will benefit the industry in the long-term.

The Hodgman Liberal Government is a strong supporter of Tasmania's racing industry, and this investment shows the benefits of Tasracing's sustainable business position that is allowing them to re-invest in much-needed infrastructure improvements.

Tasmanian company StrathAyr was chosen by Tasracing as the head contractor and are employing an additional three staff for the redevelopment, supporting local jobs in line with our Buy Local Policy.

The decision to build the single track was taken after extensive consultation by Tasracing with industry representatives, clubs and organisations.

StrathAyr grass tracks are proven around the world and are highly regarded for their all-weather and high use capabilities.

The works are expected to be completed before the running of the 2020 Hobart Cup.
