Emergency services take to the pitch to hit kid's sickness for six!, NSW

Police and emergency services will take to the pitch this weekend to raise money to help sick kids at Sydney Children’s Hospital, Randwick, NSW Police say.

St George Local Area Command will host the event between 9am and 5pm on Saturday 20 January 2018, at Gannons Park on Isaac Street in Peakhurst.

The event is a round-robin cricket tournament between NSW Police as well as emergency services and government agencies including NSW Ambulance, Fire & Rescue NSW, State Emergency Service, Rural Fire Service and NSW Health.

The emergency services will start competing from 9am, and a celebrity match will take place from 1pm.

A number of sporting personalities are showing their support for the event including Paul Wade, Michael Bevan, Mark Coyne, Troy Luff and Anthony Maroon, all of whom will compete in the 1pm match.

Commander of the St George Local Area Command, Superintendent Peter Thurtell, said the annual family-friendly event will this year raise much-needed funds for the Sydney Children’s Hospital Foundation.

"This weekend’s event will raise valuable funds for the Foundation to help support sick kids and their families at Sydney Children’s Hospital, Randwick," Supt Thurtell said.

"The Hospital cares for more than 69,000 seriously ill and injured children every year so it’s the very least we can do to contribute to the outstanding work they do.

"Many of our colleagues from the emergency service agencies have had to call on the Hospital for assistance with their sick children so they have a genuine incentive to support such a wonderful organisation.

"I urge everyone – whether you live in the local community or not – please come and join us on Saturday. It promises to be a great day and you can help cheer on the teams and spread the word," Supt Thurtell added

Sydney Children’s Hospital Foundation Chief Executive Officer, Nicola Stokes, said fundraising is critical to supporting over 69,000 sick kids who come through the doors of Sydney Children’s Hospital, Randwick.

"It gives parents and families reassurance that their kids are in the best hands, with Hospital staff having the resources they need to provide world class care," Ms Stokes said.

Sporting skill clinics for cricket, rugby union, rugby league and football will also be taking place from 9.30am to 1pm as part of the Mega Bash event.

From midday until 1pm you can meet players from the Cronulla Sharks and the St George Illawarra Dragons.

The event will also include amusement rides, games and food stalls the whole family can enjoy, along with displays from the NSW Police Force, Rural Fire Service, State Emergency Service, Ambulance NSW and Fire & Rescue NSW.

The Emergency Service Mega Raffle will also be drawn, with a silent auction taking place throughout the day, and a live auction at a post-match event on Saturday night at Club Grandviews, Peakhurst.

If you can’t attend the Mega Bash you can make a donation to the Sydney Children’s Hospital Foundation by going to https://www.schf.org.au/donate.
