More than 60 civilian employers across the country have been formally recognised as part of the new Australian Defence Force (ADF) Cadet Staff Employer Recognition Program.
Nominated by employees who volunteer in the Navy, Army and Air Force cadet programs, a wide range of businesses were recognised for their dedication to providing additional leave and other support to staff for training and to attend cadet activities.
Deputy Head of the Reserve and Cadet Support Division Commodore Grant O'Loughlan said employer support of ADF cadet staff was a key enabler of the programs, as there are more than 500 cadet units across the country.
"The ongoing generosity of businesses ensures the youth of Australia get to experience opportunities in developing leadership, resilience and other skills whilst drawing on Defence values and traditions," Commodore O'Loughlan said.
"Their support is critical to the ongoing success of the programs and we thank them for all they do for volunteer cadet staff and the broader ADF cadet community."
ADF cadet staff regularly take time out of their own careers to deliver unique maritime, aviation and land-based experiences to Navy, Army and Air Force cadets across the country.
Commodore O'Loughlan said their ability to do this was the direct result of strong relationships between cadet programs and the local community.
"Cadets regularly participate in rewarding and challenging activities that enable their development and contribute to the community," he said.
"Defence greatly values all the employers that support their staff to participate in the cadet programs as officers, instructors and Defence-approved helpers."
The ADF cadet programs are the largest youth development programs within Defence. The Australian Navy Cadets, the Australian Army Cadets and the Australian Air Force Cadets engage more than 32,000 young people across Australia.
The ADF Cadet Staff Employer Recognition Program is one of several initiatives designed to support more than 4900 ADF cadet staff Australia-wide.
