Energy From Waste Proponent Welcomes Federal Government's Endorsement

: 27/4/2018

Dial A Dump Industries has welcomed today’s endorsement of Energy from Waste by the Federal Government’s Energy and Environment Minister, Mr Josh Frydenberg at a meeting of the country’s state environmental ministers.

The Minister has endorsed "environmentally sustainable" incineration, which DADi Energy is proposing with a state of the art facility at Eastern Creek in Sydney, with a hearing at the NSW Planning Assessment Commission in coming weeks.

The proposed facility will be located next to DADi Recycling’s Genesis facility, which has been successfully operating since 2012.

Chief Executive of Dial A Dump Industries, Mr Ian Malouf said, "Mr Frydenberg has correctly pointed out that there is no one solution to waste, but energy from waste is a key component in any policy to protect the environment, while also creating much needed and low cost electricity.

"It is time the NSW Government adopted the same thinking instead of worrying about a few NIMBY’s who have been spooked by a fear campaign filled with lies and hyperbole", he added.

More than 2,200 facilities across 35 countries are using the same thermal technology, which is proven to be a safe and efficient way to generate power. Many of the European facilities operate in urban areas, alongside homes, schools, shops and businesses, with facilities located in inner-city Paris and London.

Mr Malouf said "facilities in Europe and the UK had all passed rigorous approval processes and for many years have been producing clean, cheap energy, with less harm to the environment, compared with coal fired stations or by dumping waste into landfill.

"Finally the Federal Government has woken up to the potential of facilities like the one we propose for Western Sydney, which will be privately funded with extensive controls in place", he added.

The DADi Energy facility will be built to the very latest European and Australian engineering and environmental standards. Included in the design is sophisticated technology that captures any particulate matter and adsorbs heavy metals and dioxins, while cleaning any gases before they reach the atmosphere.

This means that outputs are below the limits set out by the NSW Environmental Protection Agency and the very strict European directives, and in many cases are not even detectable. The facility’s pollution controls will be monitored live by the EPA 24 hours a day, seven days a week, with results published publicly.

Mr Malouf said "By converting residual waste into power, the facility will prevent the release of 1.5 million tonnes of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere and divert over 500,000 tonnes of waste from landfill each year, while creating enough electricity to power 100,000 homes a year.

"To limit the impact on the road network a conveyor transport system will be built to transport the waste that is sourced directly on-site from the neighbouring Genesis plant".

Mr Malouf concluded, "This is a good news story for the local community as it will be a clean renewable energy, produce jobs and much need power for Sydney’s homes, without any discernible impacts on the local community".

DADi Energy has also offered free power to 1,000 local households, a significant contribution to safeguarding families against the imminent power crises and proving the company’s continued commitment to encouraging improvement with no political motivation.

DADi Energy brings the solution at no cost to the community. ---
