Australia’s Energy Security Board (ESB) continues to work with Tasmania as we progress our plans for further interconnection and the Battery of the Nation, by hosting a forum in Hobart today.
It’s estimated Australia needs to find a whopping 17,000 megawatts of storage capacity over the next 20 years, and we have exactly what they need in our own backyard.
The forum follows the ESB’s commitment to the COAG Energy Council in August 2018 to return with a review of how to best progress and prioritise projects such as Battery of the Nation and further interconnection across Bass Strait.
Tasmania was well supported at the forum by representatives from the state’s energy industry, current and prospective generators and major industrial.
A focus on the specific regional needs of Tasmania, integrating the development of generation and transmission projects and our role in the wider national electricity market dominated the forum.
With strong support from the Hodgman Liberal Government, this forum is an important step in continuing to build the case for increased interconnection and Tasmania’s position as the Battery of the Nation.
