PARTNERS of Australian Defence Force (ADF) members will receive simpler and faster access to employment support and opportunities through improvements to the Partner Employment Assistance Program.

Minister for Defence Personnel Darren Chester said ADF partners have access to up to $1,500 to help gain employment and improvements were making the application process simpler and faster.

"Military life can present challenges for families, particularly around employment opportunities for ADF partners who may have to leave their employment due to postings or when and ADF member is medically transitioning," Mr Chester said.

"In an effort to tackle this challenge, we have made improvements to the Partner Employment Assistance Program, including virtual job search preparation workshops, greater access to employment support and better connection with job opportunities in their new posting location.

"Application and approval processes have also been improved, with eligible partners now able to complete their application online, and if they choose the a Defence provider, can start receiving support within 48 hours of being approved.

"Last financial year, more than 300 partners were supported through the Program, and with these improvements Defence will be better equipped to provide assistance to more partners."

Support for professional re-registration costs, aligned to state-based legislation, will also be provided to partners in addition to the $1,500 employment services support limit.

Employment support initiatives such as building and adapting a resume and online employment profile, identifying transferrable skills and coaching in interview skills will continue being available to partners.
