Ensuring quality early childhood education

The Morrison Government will continue to ensure high-quality child care for Australian families.

Our Government will provide $46 million to support the delivery of nationally consistent and high-quality early childhood education and care under the National Quality Framework through the Australian Children's Education and Care Quality Authority (ACECQA) from 1 July 2020.

Minister for Education Dan Tehan said the Government's funding commitment was informed by an independent review commissioned by Education Council to ensure ACECQA remained 'fit for purpose'.

"ACECQA is integral to the delivery of quality early education and care outcomes for children throughout Australia and supports a consistent national approach to regulation across all states and territories," Mr Tehan said.

"Our investment will ensure that ACECQA continues to provide guidance, resources and support to early childhood services to improve outcomes for Australia's children and families.

"The sector consists of almost 16,000 services operating in Australia delivering early childhood education and care to approximately 1.7 million children.

"Quality early childhood education and care helps give our children the best possible start in life."
