Ensuring Safe Footpaths For All

Footpaths are designed for a variety of users and provide important transport links for our Bayside community.

It is important all users follow basic rules for our footpaths to ensure they are safe and accessible for everyone.

Children under the age of 13 are legally able to ride their bikes on all footpaths, and they can be accompanied by watchful adults. This law ensures that young cyclists can navigate our streets safely.

Additionally, there are special allowances for individuals over 13 with medical conditions, allowing them and their accompanying adults to use the footpaths.

Every cyclist, regardless of age, is required to give way to pedestrians. This means slowing down or even stopping to prevent any accidents.

Unless exempted under the Road Rules, a helmet must be worn by people riding bicycles.

For walkers, it is important to keep to the left to avoid potential accidents with cyclists and be mindful of others when walking in a group.
