The Tasmanian Government is making it easier for older Tasmanians to have their voices heard, with expressions of interest now open for members of a new advisory council.
Minister for Ageing, Bridget Archer, said the Older Tasmanians Ministerial Advisory Council will ensure the ideas and experiences of older Tasmanians, and the organisations that support them, help shape government policy and projects.
"Older Tasmanians have a wealth of experience and drive that we are eager to learn from," Minister Archer said.
"We want to hear about their experiences and ideas, to make Tasmania a truly age-friendly island.
"We encourage older Tasmanians with a range of backgrounds, skills and experiences to express their interest in joining the Council – together, we are working to move our state forward.
"Our Liberal Government is getting on with the job of delivering for Tasmania."
The Council is seeking expressions of interest for up to five community members that will provide advice and insights about issues affecting older Tasmanians, based on their own lived experience.
This includes sharing their views on implementing Tasmania's five-year Older Tasmanians Action Plan, A Respectful, Age-Friendly Island.
Expressions of interest are also being sought for an additional two members from organisations supporting older Tasmanians.
This will assist in the development and implementation of informed, effective and evidence-based policy, programs and projects to support older Tasmanians.
Anyone aged 65 and over living in Tasmania can apply. For Aboriginal Tasmanians, anyone aged 50 and over is encouraged to apply.
Applications close 27 January 2026.
