Escape lawful custody at Maroochydore, QLD

A man has been charged with escaping lawful custody after allegedly fleeing from Maroochydore Magistrates Court yesterday, Queensland Police say.

It will be alleged that around 2.30pm a 29-year-old man has broken free from the court dock and struggled with a police officer before fleeing the room.

The man then allegedly proceeded to the roof of the premises before fleeing to another building. Around 7.45pm the man was found hiding at a nearby building and taken into custody without further incident.

The Mooloolaba man has been charged with escape lawful custody and serious assault police.

He is due to appear at Maroochydore Magistrates Court today, October 11.

One police officer received a minor laceration to his head as a result of the incident and was transported to Nambour Hospital for treatment.
