Escapee arrested in Newcastle

A man has been arrested after allegedly escaping police custody while receiving medical treatment at a hospital in Newcastle, NSW Police say.

A 20 year old man from Carrington was arrested at 8.30am yesterday (Wednesday 27 December 2017) and taken to Newcastle Police Station.

The man was charged with breaching bail restrictions (x2), domestic violence-related assault (x3), breach apprehended violence order (x4), and malicious damage (x2).

He was refused bail to appear before Newcastle Local Court today (Thursday 28 December 2017).

The man was subsequently transported to a hospital at Waratah for treatment. He allegedly escaped from the facility about 1.30pm.

At 11pm, officers from Newcastle City Local Area Command arrested the 20-year-old man in Berrico Avenue, Maryland.
