In June, ESCWA Executive Secretary Rola Dashti presented the 2020 Gender Equality Awards to two winners, paying tribute to the work done across divisions to mainstream a gender perspective internally and amongst the Commission's member States despite the unprecedented challenges caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The first award was presented to Radia Sedaoui, Chief of the Energy Section at ESCWA, for mainstreaming gender through the REGEND project. The gender strategy was designed and implemented to address the gender perspective and the human-rights based approach into the project's various activities and outputs.
In addition, the ESCWA Technology Center (ETC) team's efforts were remarkable and resulted in developing the "Arab Women Empowerment for Technology and Entrepreneurship" programme (AWETE), expected to improve the capacities of women-led innovation and businesses in the Arab region.
