Evade Police - East Tamar Highway, TAS

Police are calling for witnesses following an evade incident on the East Tamar Highway today, Tasmania Police say.

Around 12:25pm police from Launceston were involved in spiking a motor vehicle on the East Tamar Highway at Dilston. The vehicle a blue Subaru Liberty station wagon was being driven by a 20 year old man who had evaded police a short time before. The man was wanted by Launceston police for a number of matters.

After the vehicle was spiked the man drove onto the incorrect side of the highway at Dilston against the flow of traffic in the south bound lanes and travelled for approximately 2km before stopping at the Clover Leaf, underpass with George Town Road. The man then decamped and ran from police.

Officers flooded the area and the man was located and taken into custody a short time later.

The man is now assisting police with their enquiries.

No one was injured during this incident.

Tasmania Police are requesting members of the public to come forward who may have dash cam footage of the incident or who are prepared to speak to police regarding the matter.
