Excessive speed results in vehicle impoundment in West Melbourne

Operations Response Unit members intercepted a speeding driver in West Melbourne on Sunday as part of Operation ARID, Victoria Police say.

The 21-year-old Sunshine West man was detected travelling at 111kph in a 60 zone on Footscray Road in West Melbourne.

The probationary driver was intercepted and his vehicle was immediately impounded at a cost of $896.10.

He is expected to be charged on summons with exceeding the speed limit by 45kph.

Operation ARID is a state-wide focus on road user behaviour and awareness around the importance of taking responsibility for your own actions on the road.

The operation which started on Friday at 12.01am and finished on Monday 11:59pm

Although the Operation has now concluded members of police will continue to target the main causes of fatalities and serious injuries which include; speed, driver distraction, drivers not wearing their seatbelts, fatigue and drink and drug drivers.
