It's a local showcase at Manning Regional Art Gallery with four MidCoast artists exhibiting in what is a celebration of culture in our region.
While changes to restrictions meant the planned joint exhibition opening had to be cancelled, the Gallery has now planned smaller more intimate openings for the exhibitions for early August, in the meantime the public can still visit the gallery to experience the works.
Featuring works from Russell and Raechel Saunders, along with Steve Williams and Helga Visser, the different artworks tell important and relevant stories of the artists' culture and the MidCoast region.
Walk Softly 'stand tall, look them in the eye' by Russell Saunders + Raechel Saunders is a collection of works by Biripi artists Pastor Russell Saunders OAM and daughter Raechel Saunders that celebrates the beauty of Biripi land, it's people and the animals that live alongside us. The series also explores issues of Reconciliation, connection to land, and the revival of Aboriginal language and culture.
Also on exhibition is 'Mostly Useful' by Steve Williams and 'Observations – now and then' by Helga Visser.
Steve's dedication to local clays, rocks and timbers within his woodfired ceramics practice translates into his works with a raw Australian character and objects that capture the playful and responsive qualities of clay. Steve is a true innovator, collaborator and craftsman working in a dynamic and exciting environment to create unique pieces.
While Helga's work is a result of watching the world around her.
"Observing is what we do, whether it's landscapes, animals, people or beliefs and attitudes. Here are some of my observations from now and then," she said.
Helga's accomplished works includes sculpture, painting and drawing capturing local scenes, stories and highlights many of the environmental and social issues our society is facing.
"I'm thrilled to have these exhibitions at the Gallery together, they complement each other beautifully but are individual, challenging and thought provoking too," said Manning Regional Art Gallery Director, Rachel Piercy.
"This is a celebration of local artists and their significant achievements in their practices."
The exhibition openings are free events, with limited tickets and bookings are essential. They will follow the latest NSW Public Health Advice and are planned for:
