In a significant step forward for healthcare in the North, the Tasmanian Government has today released an updated Launceston General Hospital Precinct Masterplan for public consultation.
The Launceston General Hospital Precinct Masterplan was released in October 2021, followed by the Implementation Program in March 2022. Since that time, changes within the precinct have unlocked new opportunities.
Premier Jeremy Rockliff said that this refreshed masterplan will future-proof healthcare for Northern Tasmania.
"Today is an important milestone that is the result of consistent improvement to how we deliver healthcare in Tasmania," Premier Rockliff said.
"Launceston is a growing region, and we are supporting this through several significant healthcare commitments.
"A bigger and better masterplan allows us to incorporate important projects so we can continue to work together to move our State forward.
"By delivering new and improved health infrastructure, we are helping Tasmanians deal with the challenges that they face with compassion and commonsense."
Minister for Health, Mental Health and Wellbeing, Bridget Archer, said this latest Masterplan will build a world-class health precinct.
"We are now planning to deliver landmark projects like the new Northern Heart Centre, an expanded Emergency Department and an additional 250 beds," Minister Archer said.
"Our Government is future-proofing the healthcare needs of Northern Tasmanians.
"Importantly, this will also enable the delivery of a genuinely co-located private hospital on the LGH campus."
