Police are urging footy fans to behave responsibly at the second game of State of Origin 2017 in Sydney tomorrow, NSW Police say.
More than 80,000 fans are expected to converge on ANZ Stadium at Olympic Park to cheer on the New South Wales Blues as they take on the Queensland Maroons.
A high-visibility police operation will be in place to ensure everyone can enjoy the game in a safe, secure, and family-friendly environment.
The operation will include officers from South West Metropolitan Region, the Public Order and Riot Squad, Operation Support Group, Mounted Unit, Police Transport Command, Licensing Police and Traffic and Highway Patrol Command.
South West Metropolitan Region Commander, Assistant Commissioner Frank Mennilli, said anyone who causes trouble will be targeted by officers.
"State of Origin is a flagship event for the state and with large crowds expected at Olympic Park we want people to have a safe and enjoyable night," Assistant Commissioner Mennilli said.
"Additional police will be rostered on so if you’re attending the game, be on your best behaviour because if you choose to drink too much and misbehave, you risk being arrested.
"If you have any safety concerns, please don’t hesitate in approaching police for help."
Security guards will also assist police to target anti-social behaviour, alcohol-related crime, and conduct bag searches, no different from any other event at the venue.
"To avoid delays, don’t bring a bag unless you have to, and plan to arrive early to assist with the checking process," Assistant Commissioner Mennilli said.
Spectators are reminded that public transport to and from the match is included in their ticket price.
"State of Origin is an integrated ticketing event, so we encourage fans to leave the car at home and use public transport," Assistant Commissioner Mennilli said.
"Additional train services and Sydney Olympic Park major event buses are scheduled for the night.
"Officers from Police Transport Command will be patrolling the public transport network to keep the area safe for commuters and members of the general public.
"If you must drive, allow extra time and expect delays while driving both to and from Sydney Olympic park."
