Fantastic response to tourism voucher scheme

Peter Gutwein,Premier

Tasmanians have responded in droves to our $7.5 million tourism voucher scheme designed to entice Tasmanians to holiday at home and support local businesses, right across our State.

When registrations closed at 5pm last night, 148525 ballots had been registered from Tasmanians eager to take advantage, get out and about and enjoy their own backyard.

This is a fantastic result that I'm sure will be warmly welcomed by our tourism and hospitality businesses that need extra help following recent border closures to our biggest markets.

There will be 25000 vouchers allocated via a ballot system, meaning that registrants will have a one in six chance of receiving a voucher. The ballot system will ensure the vouchers are fairly allocated to as many Tasmanians as possible, with successful recipients to be notified tomorrow.

The last round of vouchers generated an estimated $27.5 million in additional spending as Tasmanians travelled across the State and into our regions, supporting countless local businesses and spreading the benefits across both our tourism and hospitality industries.

Thanks to all who registered their interest and best of luck in tomorrow's ballot, and I look forward to seeing Tasmanians get out and experience all our beautiful State has to offer while supporting Tassie businesses.
