Fatal aircraft crash near Bathurst, NSW

Police will prepare a report for the Coroner after the death of a man in a light aircraft crash near Bathurst, NSW Police say.

The plane left an airfield at Upper Turon, north of Bathurst, about 2pm yesterday and did not return as scheduled.

Emergency services were notified about 3.15pm.

Despite an extensive ground and air search yesterday, the plane could not be located. The search resumed at first light today with the aircraft located about 8.30am in bushland in the Upper Turon area.

The body of the 44-year-old male pilot was located inside the aircraft.

Investigations are continuing.
