Fatal crash - Helensburgh, north of Wollongong, NSW

Investigations are underway following a fatal crash in Helensburgh this morning, NSW Police say.

About 2am tomorrow, emergency services were called to Walker Street, Helensburgh following reports two vehicles had crashed.

Whilst investigations continue, it appears a car has crashed into a parked and unattended Tipper truck.

As a result a person has died at the scene.

A man, age not known, sustained multiple injuries and was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being airlifted to St George Hospital.

Officers from Crash Investigation Unit attended to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.

Walker Street is closed in both directions while the scene is being examined.

A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
