A man has died following a fatal single-vehicle crash near Newcastle yesterday, NSW Police say.
Just before 5.30pm today, a 59-year-old man was driving a Nissan Pulsar hatch north along Waran Road, Whitebridge.
Just before Kurraka Street, the vehicle left the road and hit a tree.
Two officers from Lake Macquarie Local Area Command drove past the scene immediately following and attempted to assist the driver; however he died at the scene.
An investigation into the circumstances leading up to the crash is underway and witnesses are urged to come forward and contact Crime Stoppers.
