Fatal Crash – Penquite Road at Norwood, TAS

Sadly, a 55-year-old woman from Northern Tasmania has died following a two vehicle crash at Norwood this morning, Tasmania Police say.

The crash between a Metro bus and a small blue Hyundai hatch occurred on Penquite Road near Queechy Road around 9:20am.

Investigations indicate the Hyundai was travelling down Queechy Hill and crossed onto the incorrect side of the road and into the path of the bus.

The driver and sole occupant of the Hyundai was freed from her car by Tasmania Fire Service crews using rescue equipment.  She was transported to the Launceston General Hospital in a serious condition but sadly passed away upon arrival.

The bus driver was treated at the scene by Tasmania Ambulance for shock and underwent a blood test at the hospital in relation to the crash.

The bus had one adult passenger at the time of the crash who was not injured.

Tasmania Police Crash Investigators, Forensic Police and Transport Inspector attended the scene and the road was closed for approximately 2 hours.

Our thoughts are with the family and loved ones of the woman involved.

A report is being prepared for the Coroner.
