Fatal crash - Whittingham, near Singleton, NSW

Inquiries continue into a fatal crash near Singleton yesterday, NSW Police say.

About 2.20pm today, emergency services were called to the New England Highway, Whittingham, following reports of a two-vehicle crash.

A northbound Hyundai iload and a southbound Ford Ranger utility had collided. After the crash, the Ford rolled onto its side.

The 26-year-old Victorian man who was driving the iload was trapped in the vehicle for a period of time, before being released.

He died of his injuries while getting airlifted to John Hunter Hospital. The passenger of the iload, a 23-year-old woman, was conveyed to John Hunter Hospital for treatment to tissue damage and bruising.

The 22-year-old male driver of the Ford Ranger was taken to John Hunter Hospital where he is undergoing surgery for internal abdominal injuries.

He is in a serious but stable condition.

Officers from Newcastle Crash Investigation Unit attended the scene and conducted inquiries.

A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
