Fatal crash - Yarra near Goulburn, NSW

Police have commenced an investigation after a fatal crash near Goulburn this morning, NSW Police say.

About 10.20am today emergency services were called to the Hume Highway, near Coles Lane, at Yarra after reports of a single-vehicle crash.

Police have been told a Mitsubishi Pajero was travelling along the Hume Highway towards Jindabyne when the driver tried to avoid hitting an object on the road way. The Mitsubishi struck the object causing the vehicle to roll onto its roof.

Five occupants were in the vehicle.

The female driver of the Mitsubishi Pajero, died at the scene.

One of the female passengers, sustained serious injuries and was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being airlifted to Canberra Hospital.

The remaining three occupants were taken to Goulburn Base Hospital as a precautionary measure with minor injuries.

Officers from The Hume Local Area Command attended and established a crime scene.

Detectives and Crime Scene Officers attended and will investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.

Police will prepare a report for the information of the Coroner.

Both south bound lanes on the Hume Highway are currently closed.
