Police are investigating a fatal traffic crash at the intersection of Sheridan and Lily Street this morning, 21 May.
Initial information indicates around 7am, a police vehicle collided with a 71-year-old Trinity Beach woman.
Officers immediately rendered medical assistance before she was transported to Cairns Hospital where she was later declared deceased.
Lily Street remains closed between Digger and Sheridan Streets and motorists are urged to avoid the area.
The Forensic Crash Unit and Ethical Standards Command are investigating with oversight from the Crime and Corruption Commission and Coroner.
Police are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with relevant dashcam to come forward.
