Fatal House Fire in Lake Illawarra: Emergency Crews Respond

An investigation is underway after a fatal house fire at Lake Illawarra overnight.

Just after 11.50pm yesterday (Tuesday 26 August 2025), emergency services were called to Murrie Street, Windang, following reports of a house fire.

Officers attached to Lake Illawarra Police District attended the scene and located a house well alight.

Fire and Rescue NSW attended and extinguished the blaze; however, the home was destroyed, and the structure collapsed.

The resident – a man believed to be in his 60s – was unaccounted for.

Following a forensic examination of the home, a body of a man was located.

While the body is yet to be formally identified, it is believed to be that of the resident.

A crime scene has been established and police commenced an investigation into the incident.

A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
