Fatal in Alice Springs 6 March

A 57-year-old male cyclist has died after being struck from by a vehicle in Alice Springs earlier this morning.

At around 8:20am, police received a report of a road crash involving a cyclist and a Ford Falcon sedan on Darken Road, near Simpsons Gap.

Police and St John Ambulance attended however, the man died at the scene.

The 30-year-old driver remained at the scene. He was arrested following a positive roadside drug test and remains in custody while the incident is being investigated.

Major Crash Detectives remain on scene and will continue to investigate the matter.

Detective Senior Sergeant Brendan Lindner said police are calling for witnesses.

"Anyone who witnessed the crash or has dashcam footage of any vehicles or cyclists travelling on Darken Road today is urged to contact police on 131 444. Please quote reference 9581101."
