Fatal in Knuckey Lagoon 7 January

A man has died after being struck by three vehicles in Knuckey Lagoon last night.

At around 9pm, police received reports of the crash in the outbound lanes of the Stuart Highway.

Police and St John Ambulance attended the scene.

The drivers of all vehicles stopped and remained at the scene and contacted triple zero.

Detectives from the Major Crash Investigation Unit attended and are investigating the incident and will prepare a report for the coroner.

Detective Senior Sergeant Brendan Lindner said, "There have been a number of incidents in recent times throughout the Territory where motorists have responded to seeing hazards on the road and attempted to warn oncoming vehicles by positioning their vehicles off the road and either attempting to illuminate the hazard or flash the oncoming vehicle.

"Whilst their intentions have been to prevent crashes, doing so usually only results in distracting the oncoming driver and can make the situation worse.

"As a driver did in this case, the best court of action is to position your vehicle on the road to block the hazard, activate your hazard lights, stand off to the side of the road and call police."
