Fatal para-glider crash in Newcastle

A para-glider pilot has died after a crash at Newcastle this afternoon, NSW Police say.

Emergency services were called to Shepherds Hill, Newcastle, about 2pm following reports a 62-year-old man had lost control while flying and hit a cliff.

Bystanders rushed to the man's aid, pulling him onto the cliff and performing CPR before the arrival of emergency services who continued CPR but the man could not be revived.

Police from Newcastle City Local Area Command with assistance from the Aviation Support Branch will examine all circumstances surrounding the man’s death and prepare a report for the information of the Coroner.

Police are urging anyone with information in relation to this incident to call Crime Stoppers.
