Fatal pedestrian crash near Bathurst

A pedestrian has died following a crash in the state's central west today.

Emergency services were called to Bowen Street, Sofala, about 45km north of Bathurst, just after 8am (Saturday 19 August 2023), after reports a pedestrian had been struck by a vehicle.

The pedestrian, a 68-year-old woman, got out of her vehicle after parking when she was reportedly struck by a Mitsubishi truck.

State Emergency Service (SES) volunteers on duty at a nearby festival immediately provided medical assistance, performing CPR.

Officers from Chifley Police District attended along with NSW Ambulance paramedics; however, the woman died at the scene.

A crime scene was established and has since been forensically examined.

The truck driver, a 72-year-old man, was taken to Bathurst Base Hospital for mandatory testing.

An investigation is now underway into the circumstances surrounding the crash.

A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
