Fatal traffic crash at Murgon, QLD

A 27-year-old man and seven-year-old boy have died after a serious traffic crash at Murgon yesterday afternoon, Queensland Police say.

Around 5pm, police and emergency crews responded to a two-vehicle traffic crash involving a prime mover towing a tri-axle trailer and a dual cab Nissan Navara utility on the Bunya Highway near the Kilcoy Murgon Road intersection.

Initial investigations indicate the prime mover was travelling east and the ute west when the crash occurred.

The ute’s driver, a 27-year-old man and the seven-year-old boy, who was a rear seat passenger, were pronounced deceased at the scene.

Two girls, aged one and six, also rear seat passengers were treated at the scene and taken to Murgon Hospital with the six-year-old later airlifted to the Lady Cilento Hospital for further treatment.

The one-year-old girl was released from hospital.

The driver of the semi-trailer, a 52-year-old man, was not injured but treated for shock.

Police are appealing for anyone who was travelling along on the Bunya Highway near the Kilcoy Murgon Road intersection around the time of the incident, to contact them, particularly anyone with dashcam footage.

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating.
