Fawkner Highway Patrol nab iced taxi driver

Fawkner Highway Patrol members expect to charge a taxi driver with drug driving after he was intercepted on the Tullamarine Freeway last night, Victoria Police say.

Police had received footage of the driver allegedly smoking an illicit substance in his cab several days prior to last night’s intercept.

The footage had been taken by a passer-by and given to police and the Taxi Services Commission.

Police intercepted the driver travelling towards the city last night at 8.30pm and requested that he undergo a preliminary drug test.

The test indicated the presence of illegal drugs in his system.

Police searched the man and allegedly found two bags of white powder believed to be methamphetamine.

The 37-year-old Noble Park man is expected to be charged with drug driving, possess drug of dependence and fail to wear taxi uniform.
