Field Hockey Captures Eighth-straight Big East Tourney Title

The No. 3 University of Connecticut field hockey team (18-3) captured its eighth-straight Big East Tournament Championship with a 2-0 win against No. 18 Old Dominion on Sunday afternoon at the Quinnipiac Field Hockey Stadium.

Big East Tournament Most Outstanding Player Svea Boker scored a pair of third quarter goals to lift the Huskies to its 18th Big East Tournament title.

It was the sixth time this season that the senior tallied multiple goals in a contest. The Big East Offensive Player of the Year has totaled a team-high 20 goals on the year.

Goalkeeper Cheyenne Sprecher recorded her second shutout of the tournament and her ninth of the season to record Big East All-Tournament team status. Sprecher was joined by Boker, Sophie Hamilton, Antonia Tiedtke, and Maddy Wray.

With the win, the Huskies earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament for the 31st time in program history and 18th straight.

The 2019 NCAA Division I field hockey championship bracket will be announced at 10 p.m. tonight. The selection show will be available to watch on NCAA.com.
