Fifth person arrested in connection to taxi-driving cocaine syndicate

A fifth person has been charged by detectives investigating a syndicate that allegedly used taxis to transport cocaine across Sydney.

In December 2018, Operation Trident was formed to detect and disrupt organised crime in the Sydney metropolitan area. It is an on-going police operation, involving officers from South West Metropolitan Region Enforcement Squads coordinating with local police area commands.

As part of those investigations, on Friday 22 March 2019, officers executed search warrants at homes in Bankstown, Bass Hill, Campsie, and Rhodes; where they seized cash, a money counting machine, a baton, and various electronic items.

Four people were arrested and charged, and their matters remain before the courts.

Following further investigations, about 1pm yesterday (Monday 29 April 2019) police stopped a taxi on Weigand Avenue, Bankstown.

The 42-year-old driver was arrested and taken to Bankstown Police Station, where he was charged with supply prohibited drugs on an ongoing basis and knowingly participate in a criminal group.

He was refused bail to appear before Bankstown Local Court today (Tuesday 30 April 2019).

Meanwhile, investigations under Operation Trident continue, and anyone with information that may assist is urged to come forward.

Anyone with information about this incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers: 1800 333 000 or https://nsw.crimestoppers.com.au. Information is treated in strict confidence.
