Fifth teenager charged over crime spree

A teenage boy has been charged as part of an investigation into a string of property and traffic related offences allegedly committed over three days across Sydney.

Since Sunday (16 August 2020), officers from Cumberland Police Area Command were investigating multiple incidents that had occurred across south west Sydney, including car thefts, a carjacking and armed robberies.

Following inquiries, officers from Mt Druitt Police Area Command's Proactive Crime Team arrested five teenagers following a pursuit with a stolen vehicle on Tuesday (18 August 2020).

Two girls – aged 16 and 14 – and two boys – aged 14 and 16 – were charged at Mt Druitt Police Station and remain before the courts.

The fifth teenager, a 14-year-old boy, was taken to The Children's Hospital at Westmead, where he remains under police guard.

Yesterday (Thursday 20 August 2020), the teenager was charged with two counts of aggravated break and enter commit serious indictable offence, three counts of aggravated take/drive motor vehicle with person in/on it – armed with weapon, two counts of take and drive conveyance without consent of owner, three counts of be carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner, attempted robbery armed with offensive weapon, never licenced person drive vehicle on road and resist arrest.

He was refused bail and a bedside hearing was conducted at the hospital, where he was formally refused bail to appear before a children's court on Monday 24 August 2020.
