Find easy parking in CBD

East Street digital parking banner

Need to find a park in the CBD? Take a look at one of the three digital banners recently rolled out to instantly see where parks are available in real time.

Rockhampton Region Mayor Margaret Strelow said the banners have been installed in three key locations.

"When you're rushing to a lunchtime meeting in the middle of a workday or a want to pop in to your favourite shop it can be hard to quickly spot somewhere to park.

"These three digital banners – two of which are located on East Street and one on Quay Street – display real time information from around 900 carparks in the CBD, including stretches on Quay Street, East Street, Bolsover Street, Alma Street, William Street, and Denham Street.

"These sensors also enable Council to track detailed data on where and when carparks are in most demand.

"This data shows us that, even during the busiest times of the day, about a third of those 900 parks are vacant, so most of the time these banners will instantly point you toward a carpark within a short walking distance of where you need to be.

"In times when parks are in higher demand – such as during events like Riverfest – you'll be able to tell at a glance where there are parks available, and avoid driving down a street that's already full.

"All of the same parking information is also available on the PayStay app, so that you can check your phone to see how occupied areas of the CBD look before you even leave home.

"The rollout of these digital banners is part of Council's award-winning Smart Way Forward Strategy, which is designed to make our Region an even more attractive place to live and work."

The new digital banners are located on either end of East Street between William and Fitzroy Streets, and at the William and Quay Street roundabout.

Search for 'PayStay' in your app store to find real-time parking information before you leave home.
